After winning the first trick you draw trumps and when they break 2:2  you have to decide on a simple finesse or a ruffing finesse. If you take a simple finesse and it fails the opponents will quickly cash a second Diamond and take you one off. If however you do the ruffing finesse you give yourself a chance of an overtrick without putting your contract into jeopardy. You cash the Spade Ace and then play the Queen and chuck the Diamond loser. On this occasion West had both missing Kings and you end up with just  12 tricks
