This hand is really quite easy as long as you work
out declarer’s hand from his opening bid. Firstly declarer can have no values outside his Heart
suit. Secondly you need to find an entry to partner’s hand so
partner can continue Diamonds. Your only hope is to switch to Clubs (despite seeing the
KQJ in dummy. Partner wins the Ace and continues Diamonds and you are
able to ruff the third round taking your tally to 4 winners defeating the
contract by 1. Any other defence declarer will be able to get in and
draw trumps eventually throwing a Diamond loser on the third round of Spades.
