This hand comes from the National Pairs Final 2014 and I was somewhat surprised not to have go a better result. Unfortunately for us, many of the pairs weren't in Game so our opponents were already going to get an above average score. However we managed to salvage something when my partner switched to a Spade at trick 2.
He knew another round of Diamonds was not going to hold up after leading the King (knowing I had started with six). At trick two he reasoned that if partner had the club Ace then we would get an automatic club trick, and if we were to get a Spade trick, then at trick two, he needed to switch to Spades, before declarer had the opportunity to dump losing Spades on the fine Club suit showing in dummy.
Because of the Spade switch at trick two we now generated 3 defensive tricks for just a slightly below average score.
Any other defence and declarer is able to draw two rounds of trumps and merely play off winning Clubs dumping ALL his Spade losers. Well Done partner.
