If
left to his own devices, declarer will make all the 8 Spades since the Queen
comes down, and 3 tricks from the Minor Suits. What could possibly go wrong now
that the opposition have continued Hearts at trick 2. East has won first trick
with Ace then played small one back. Does his ace really deny the King or is he
falsecarding. (NB Has East really led the 9 from K98 or K109 ?) Far too many
players are in a hurry to ruff. You have a club loser which cannot go away, so
instead of ruffing ditch it now- Loser on Loser play. Now the defence will only
obtain 2 tricks ie the first two Hearts.
If you ruff you will be overruffed and still have the Club loser some
time later.
