Our hand this week demonstrates the art of patience and particularly not being in a hurry to overtrump.

After leading your singleton Club partner wins first two tricks and then plays a low club and declarer trumps with the Queen. You could over-ruff but now you lose the trump promotion. By chucking away you are now guaranteed two tricks from the trump suit guaranteeing the contract going down. So you discard a Heart. Declarer now goes over to dummy with a top Heart (the only one) and then plays a Diamond back to hand in order to ruff a losing Heart. What next? Declarer now starts to draw trumps and you win the Ace and play a Heart. Declarer follows suit and you partner now plays  another club and declarer trumps high. To cut a long story short declarer now loses control of the trump suit and through your patience the contract goes three down for a well defended hand. Perhaps South took his life into his own hands when joining in with 3♠.
