This hand from OK bridge was played against me and the opponents took the first three tricks and then put me on the table by making me trump a Diamond.
They led a Club followed by a Club ruff followed by Ace and another Diamond. In the strictest Fagin manner I reviewed the situation and was sure that West put me on the Table so I could not take a Spade finesse. I therefore decided to expose myself in the nicest possible way in Hearts and played a Heart to my Ace, my only entry back to hand in order to take this Finesse.
When the finesse held I was now able to claim my contract after disposing of my losing Hearts on dummy's winning two top Clubs. I had eventually made 5 trumps, 1 Heart 2 established Clubs and 2 Diamonds ruffed.
As it happens if West had been less intent on putting me in dummy and more intent on finding an entry to his partner's hand and underled his Diamond at trick 3 then he would indeed have got another Club ruff -if he had noticed his partner's ¨4 as a suit preference signal as the Diamond entry then victory would indeed be for the defenders.
