When I played this hand at the National Pairs final, fortunately for me West didn't Double and East led a Heart and I easily made 11 tricks losing just two Clubs when the opposition failed to switch to Spades.
Well why should East Double ?
East must make this LIGHTNER DOUBLE to get his partner to MAKE AN UNUSUAL LEAD. Here the unusual lead partner is expecting is dummy's first bid suit. As long as the ª9 is led the defence has the upperhand and while declarer is trying to establish club tricks you, East, will be able to get in and play more Spades and declarer will be totally fixed. and the defence will prevail.
