1NT = 15-17 Balanced ?

You will of course play the Ace and fire the suit back to partner. Declarer plays the the Queen under your ace and fail to follow suit to trick 2. You now know declarer has bid an off centre 1NT and you now know partner has started with five. On the third round of diamonds you MUST UNBLOCK that EIGHT or you will not win the first five tricks. Unless you win the first five tricks declarer has and easy run from 5 Clubs, 4 Hearts and 1 Spade. Serve declarer right for opening this 1NT with a very unbalanced hand. Maybe they should be playing in their 4:3 heart fit and just about muster 10 tricks with a non diamond lead. A friend and colleague once told me that if you abuse the  cards they never forgive. It is certainly true here of South.

  You can also play out the following hand  to see how the hand pans out. (You need bridgvu.exe programme  and it is available free from   http://www.haroldschogger.com/movies.html )
