After leading Ace and another heart declarer ruffs the second Heart and now plays ♠Jack- plan your defence.

My partner was very adventurous and bid all the way to 4♠ without me bidding anything. Quite frankly I do not agree with his bidding at all.
However he was extremely lucky and made his contract.
What did West do that let this contract through?
After ruffing the second Heart, now declarer led the ♠Jack covered by the Queen, dummy's Ace winning and crashing down East's singleton King. West was a member of "Always cover and honour with an Honour" brigade.
Now declarer has 10 tricks in the bag-all 7 spades, Club Ace and 2 top Diamonds.
Let's now rewind. The exact rule is "Cover an honour if you can promote something for your side".
West needs to consider the bidding and realise that declarer probably has 7 spades from the way that he is bidding . If declarer has the trump King then he has no problems. However if he doesn't then partner could have it and it might be Singleton. Oh I better not cover as I am unlikely to be promoting anything for East. He should not cover and merely play low. Declarer finesses and your partner does indeed win his singleton King.
Now the defence will win 1 Spade, 1 Heart, 1 Diamond and 1 Club in the fullness of time,
