1 Double Pass 2
2 5 End

After regaining your composure when partner went straight to 5 after your very minimum reaction to the Double, you look at the dummy and realise that partner had in fact made a really sensible bid.

Initially you have 8 winners i.e. 2 Clubs and 2 top Hearts.

Therefore, you will need to generate two from ruffing HEARTS in your hand, the short hand. You will need to generate the 11th one from establishing a spade.

If you establish a spade late on, at that point then East might be able to ruff. if you have not drawn trumps yet.

The main element here of card play is to get that Spade trick. With West having bid 1 followed by 2 it looks like west is 5:4 or 5:5 and if you play a spade at trick two there should be no risk of a ruff from East.

With all this in mind, after winning the first tick in dummy, play low spade to your King won by West . West now plays a second Spade and your Queen holds the trick (PHEW)

Now play two top Hearts followed by a heart ruff.

Draw one round of trumps winning in dummy (noticing the 3:0 Break) in order to play your last heart ready to trump with the Jack (to avoid any possibility of an overruff). However it is East who doesn't follow suit and you can ruff with the 7 and now you know that West's shape was 5440 from the word go.

Now its a matter of drawing trumps and claiming 11 tricks

You won 6 clubs 2 Hearts, 2 Heart ruffs and 1 established Spade

(NB Had you drawn trumps at the beginning it would take 3 rounds to do so and you would only be able to ruff 1 Heart- unless you took an 11th hour heart finesse but that is so risky isn't it?)
