The
opponents have led a Diamond to set up a Diamond winner for themselves. You will
have a certain trump loser if the trumps break 31.
The
Diamond loser can be dispatched on the 13th Diamond but this means
that the Hearts will have to break 33 or you can finesse the Club Queen or you
can ruff out the Club queen hoping it falls in 2 or three rounds. However, let
us try and combine all these chances
to enhance our success rate.
After winning the first
trick we draw just 2 rounds of trumps before testing the Clubs. We now play Ace
King and another club which we trump. Relieved to see the Club Queen fall
offside in 3 rounds we now enter hand with a High Heart to chuck away the losing
Diamond on the established §J.
We can now ruff a Diamond in dummy and claim merely conceding a Trump at
the end or whenever East wants to take it. If the Club Queen had not come down
we still had chance that we could play off four rounds of Hearts disposing of
the Diamond loser on that suit. We have made 5 trumps, 2 clubs, 1 established
Club, and 4 Hearts.
