I was somewhat surprised when partner replied 4♥. Presumably he thought his clubs suit would help to provide quite a lot of tricks in a 4♥ contract.. (NB it was not the correct reply and he should merely have replied 2♣)'
Counting your winners, you have just 5 winners i.e. 2 Spades 1 Heart and two top Clubs.
When all looks gloom and doom that's the time to then count losers.
You have no spade losers, 2 potential Heart losers and 1 Diamond loser- that's better :)
If the diamond Ace is onside then the hearts honours are likely to be against you and if the Diamond Ace is with West then the Heart suit honours are likely to be semi favourably placed with East having the King or Jack.
Having analysed this, it now makes sense to test the Diamond suit and play the only Diamond from dummy i.e.. the ♦2. East plays the Ace and now your King is good and you hopefully will be able to ruff the losing Diamond and the losing Spade in dummy the short hand.
Since you haven't been drawing trumps and it looks like you want to do some ruffing in dummy, the short hand, East now switches to the ♥9. We are allowed one finesse here and when we try the 10 West Jacks it. There are still 2 trumps in dummy and should west play a trump now he will now limit the trump losers to just one.
West gets off lead with the ♠7. You win this in hand.
You cash the Heart Ace before playing two top Clubs followed by a Club ruff.
You now enter enter dummy by ruffing your last diamond and cash an established Spade. West trumps with the Heart King but you throw away uour losing Spade and make10 tricks losing just two Hearts and 1 Diamond.
You made 2 Spades, 3Hearts, 1 Diamond, 2 Clubs, 1 Diamond ruffed and 1 club ruffed.
