Having avoided a Diamond lead it is now
vital to get those Hearts going as early as possible so that the 13th
Hearts can be established for a Diamond discard. After winning the first trick
immediately play a Heart to the Ace and return to dummy via a top trump in order
to ruff a High Heart as you will need your lower trumps later to get back to
dummy). (NB At the moment you are not generating any extra tricks because you
are, of course, ruffing in the long hand. ) You now go over to dummy drawing the last
trump in order to ruff a second Heart. When both opponents follow suit it now
means the Hearts have broken 4:3 (62%). Now you can ruff a Club (in the short
hand) so generating the 10th trick) to get to dummy. You now ruff
your penultimate Hearts bringing down East’s King. You now carefully enter dummy
(WITH A TRUMP). You cash the established Heart ditching a Diamond. You can now
graciously concede the last two Diamond tricks claiming 11 for a joint top. You have made seven trumps, 1 Heart 1Club
1 Club ruffed in the short hand and 1 Established Heart. You can also view
