The auction was not at all scientific and NS ended up in 6♥. What do you make of this Double? An out of the Blue Double has a special meaning. It is called a Lightner double (named after Theo Lightner of New York) who recommended that a Double under these circumstances was asking partner for an "UNUSUAL LEAD" and to look at his had carefully, most if the time signifying he wanted dummy's first bid suit.
East had taken a chance here with only one Diamond praying for partner to have the Ace.
West duly obliged and led the Ace and another Diamond immediately defeating the contract.
Any other lead and declarer will be able to get home and easily make 12 tricks.
Perhaps NS wish they were not playing 5 card suits and would open 1♥ initially (4441 with a black suit singleton open 1♥) but it wasn't to be on this hand.
