Dealer: South  Both Vul

The secret of this hand is to count winners and losers properly, otherwise you will go down if you are careless. I speak from personal experience.

Initially you are allowed to count 6 spade winners as you have the top four and can cope with a 4:0 break. 1 Heart  and 2 Clubs. So without doing any work you have 9 winners and only need one more.

Re the losers you have 1 Heart and 1 Diamond.

You can generate an  extra trick by Club finesse or by ruffing a club in dummy the short hand.

With all this in mind you should win first trick and cash two top trumps. When the trumps break 3:1 you can now play 3 clubs ruffing the third one in dummy. Now its a matter of getting back to hand by playing a second Heart intending to ruff the next one and another Diamond, and hopefully make 11 tricks. However West  who has the Trump Ten now gets a trump promotion. the  Perhaps you might have played King of diamonds instead to force out the Ace but  you would still come to 10 tricks as West is short in both red suits

When this hand was played against me declarer in his eagerness to trump clubs played two round of clubs first and now with the very adverse distribution, West ruffed the club and cashed a top Heart. The defence were now able to win 1 Club ruffed. 1 Diamond  1 Top Heart and 1 trump promotion from the Heart suit.

My friend used to say the cards don't forgive, if you abuse them. So do count winners and losers at the start of the game and you will make 10 tricks unlike the declarer who managed to go one off.
