After taking your King you suspect that partner’s 8 is a singleton. If it isn’t, then all dummy’s Diamonds are looming in the Dummy And the contract might make. Therefore we really need this lead to be a singleton and we require Diamond ruffs. So instead of just cashing the Ace we will play our lowest Club to ask partner to come backs a Diamond which we intend ruffing. We play a low Club and partner duly ruffs. He now gets our suit preference signal (low Club for a Diamond) and switches to the Diamond queen. When declarer tries the Ace we ruff and play a third (low) club to give partner a ruff and also to keep control of the club suit. Partner ruffs and puts through another high diamond forcing out dummy’s remaining high Diamond. which we ruff. We have taken the first 5 tricks. We now exit with a trump to try and take the trumps off the table. Our Heart winners will not disappear. Declarer wins in hand and sensibly ruffs his last club before ruffing a diamond. He draws the last trump and finesses the Heart. We get our AQ and we have taken the contract 4 off.
