Despite the fact that North only has 7 high card points he realises there is double fit 5:3 in Hearts and at least 5:4in Clubs so bids a thin Heart Game.

West leads a Spade and you win the first trick.

You should immediately draw trumps. After winning the first trump trick West perseveres in Spades.

You now need to take out the remaining trumps. Upwards and onwards. Now you need to negotiate the Club suit. In Hand you have the KJ tenace and in North just the Ace so you must keep that KJ tenace intact and cash the Ace first. Now you are no longer the unlucky expert who always plays the King first and says the suit broke badly. You are now indeed, the expert, and can still finesse East’s remaining Q10.

If you are extra careful with the clubs and leave the 8 on table you will be able to make 12 tricks and dump your Diamond King on dummy’s Spade Queen

You can also watch the following movie to see how the hand pans out. To view this programme you will need  to download htttp://www.haroldschogger.com/bridgevu.setup
