Initially you only have 4 winners- 1 top spade, two top Hearts and a top Club. When counting winners seems dire it a good idea to try and count losers. Here you hopefully will have no more than 1 Spade loser (if spades break 3:2. No Heart losers, 1 Diamond loser and 1 Club loser.

You have lost the first trick after trying a trump finesse. Do you now try the club finesse when a club comes back? NO. you do not wish to turn one possible club loser into two if East has a singleton Club and gets a ruff before you have drawn trumps- you do not wish to turn wine into water do you?

With this in mind. you take the Ace of clubs and quickly draw trumps. After drawing trumps you force out the Club Ace. West cashes the Diamond Ace and that’s the last trick the defence take.

You make 4 trumps, 2 Hearts, 1 Diamond and 3 Clubs. losing just 1 club (no ruff here) 1 Diamond and 1 spade.
