On our hand this week our initial count of winners is 4 trumps and the Diamond Ace. If the trumps break reasonably then 1 extra from the last trump.

We could establish one more trick from Spades and maybe one from Diamonds.

However the bidding suggests that East has all the remaining important cards so the finesse of the Diamond Queen is unlikely to work.

In order to try and muster two tricks from Spades we will have to hope that East who bid has precisely a doubleton Spade Ace and that soon his Spade Ace with fall on air.

From the bidding it seems that East’s longest suit is clubs and when a low club comes back at trick 2 we decide to ruff high as we get no useful discard from hand and have to hope the trump suit breaks kindly.

As expected East has no more Clubs and discards a Diamond.

We now draw two rounds of trumps ending in dummy. We utilize the entry wisely and take the spade finesse through East and the Queen holds the trick. We now play a trump delighted to see trumps breaking 3-3. We now play a low spade from each hand and East’s Ace now “falls on Air” (captures only low cards).East plays a high club which we trump with our last trump

Now we go over to the Spade King.

Knowing East has only two Clubs and two Diamonds left we now exit with a club and let East cash his winning clubs before he exits with a diamond away from his King. He is endplayed.

We let the trick go around to dummy’s Queen and now make a deserved overtrick and a huge top.

We eventually made 2 Spades, 5 Hearts and 2 Diamonds.
