Partner’s lead is obviously a singleton and unless we tell partner what to play next  declarer could chuck all his losers away on dummy’s KQJ of Spades.

SO at trick one we may a SUIT PREFERENCE SIGNAL and play the ª2 which says please switch to the lowest suit barring trump, therefore a Club.

Partner first cashes the Diamond Ace as he too knows that declarer will get discards before dully switching to a club. You have now taken your three defensive tricks for an above Match Point score.

There is always more than one way to skin a cat. If you aren’t playing Suit Preference signals then at trick two West will play the Diamond Ace and will see if you encourage. If you don’t then he will still find a club switch at trick three.
