West Leads Ace then King of Hearts plan your play.

This hand is one of the hands nominated for Hand Of the Month on the OK Bridge Online

playing site.

Tony Reus, the Declarer, knew from the bidding West had the top Hearts and therefore could have nothing else (except perhaps for a “worthless” doubleton Club 9) . He placed East with both missing Club honours and knew that finessing the Club 10 would prove to be fatal. Therefore he needed to eliminate the Hearts and Spades before setting up an endplay against East, After ruffing the second trick, he played the Spade Ace and ruffed a Spade. He then entered dummy with a High Trump to ruff a second Spade. He then re-entered dummy with a trump in order to ruff out the last Spade. The stage was now set. The Majors from each hand had been eliminated. He now called for the Club 10 and poor East was in a hopeless situation. Declarer was now in a position to lose just the 0ne club trick once the 9 was pinned. Declarer had brought home 5 Trumps, 1 Spade, 3 Spade ruffs and 2 Club tricks.
