Initially you have 8 winners only, 3 spades 1 Heart and 4 Diamonds.

Hopefully you can build a trick in spades and maybe one more in Clubs if they open the suit up.

As long as the spades are no worse than 4:2 in the opponents hands you will get a 9th trick from this suit.

As the cards between you and dummy are distributed in an unbalanced way, the opponents' cards are likely to be unbalanced too.

With this in mind, we can take the Spade finesse not worrying if it fails, and the suit is breaking 4:2.

Before the defenders can sort out their signals. after winning the first trick in hand play the ♠9 and let it run.

West plays low and your ♠9 wins, with East only able to play the ♠7.

You are now in the  correct hand to finesse again and when West plays low your ♠10 wins.

You now make 10 tricks for a well played hand :- 5 spades, 1 heart and 4 Diamonds.

Had West covered the first spade her 5 would have eventually been promoted but at trick two this was hard to forecast

(South's card play was better then his addition and he had opened 1NT with 11 points instead of 12!!)
