Bridge books on card play always have a chapter on Card Combinations. It was a pity that my dear partner had never read such a chapter.
Not unreasonably West led
♠10 top of his partner’s suit when holding a doubleton.
Everything rests on what you do at tricks one. My dear partner plyd low from dummy and when East played low partner won the trick with the King and no longer had a second stopper in Spades- UGH
Now let’s go back. The Jack lead now marks East with AJ of spades so all declarer needs to do is play dummy’s Queen and now declarer has a tenace position left of her K8 sitting over East’s remaining J5
Now declarer makes 5 Diamond tricks , 2 Hearts after finessing East for the missing King of Hearts and two spades after finessing East for the missing Spade Jack making her very sensible contract instead of going one off.
