After winning the first trick declarer plays a trump. In order tpo defeat this contract you will need to take four defensive tricks. You have three in the bag (two top trumps and the Diamond Ace).If you make a lazy Club continuation at trick three declarer will prevail. Declarer will merely stop playing trumps and knock out your Diamond Ace so that he can chuck his Spade loser away.
Since declarer was able to win the first club so easily you know your partner has no Club honours. In order to break this contract, partner will have to have the Spade King. You will therefore have to act quickly and switch at trick three to a Spade while you still have Diamond control.
Now declarer’s chances are hopeless as you will now realize 2 top trumps, the King of Spades and the Diamond Ace.
