This hand from the Grand Masters 2015 event should produce 13 tricks according to the Deep Finesse
You can certainly make 12 tricks and if you are extra vigilante and observe the fall of the Diamond Jack and 10 then 13 tricks will materialize.
Initially you should play two rounds of Diamonds intending to ruff one Diamond in the short hand. However when the Jack and 10 fall you can now draw one more round of trumps leaving the Ace of trumps on table as an entry.
You now cash two more winning Diamonds pleased to see that West's Spade Jack was a genuine card and that West is unable to ruff the winning Diamonds.
Now going back to trick one. If West has the top Heart and the Clubs covered he will now be squeezed as you play off all the remaining trumps. The Heart Ten on table is a threat card and your clubs in hand are also threatening to be winners. On the last trump West cannot guard his Club and keep the master Heart.
Declarer will make 5 trumps, 4 Diamonds and either 1Heart and 3 Clubs or 2 Hearts and 2 clubs bringing his tally to all thirteen tricks.
