Initially you have 5 winners by way of three top spades, and 2 more Aces.

If the trumps break 3:2 then 2 more trumps with materialize and there is possibility of extra tricks from Clubs and also from ruffing a Diamond in dummy the short hand.

The opponents lead a top diamond followed by a trump trying to cut back on you being able to ruff Diamonds in the dummy. However you are now ahead in the game and should take this trick and play another diamond. The defence perseveres with trumps, to no avail, and you are eventually able to get your ruff in dummy.

You then draw the remaining trump and set about the club finesse which fails. However by the end of the hand you amass 9 tricks by way of 5 trumps, 1 Heart, 1 Diamond ruff and 2 clubs.

NB Had the opposition led trumps, then before clearing all the trumps (you need to keep control) you would have forced out the Club King and got your extra 9^th trick from the 13^th club instead, dumping a losing Diamond instead of ruffing one.
