My Romanian bridge partner, Geza Stanca, practising on Bridge Base with me instantaneously made a loser on loser play on this week’s hand.
In 2© if the Hearts are kind and no worse than4:2 you ca make 6 Heart tricks 2 Black Aces and the King of Clubs. On the loser front you have 3 possible Spade losers, and 2 Diamond losers. Well one of the spade losers can be dispatched onto the second high club in dummy,
The point of the hand is not to conjure up an extra loser by running into an over-ruff at trick three by West.
Therefore in a split second on the third round of Diamonds, Geza chucked a Spade (loser on loser play). guaranteeing his contract.
East tried a Spade now but Geza was ahead in the race. He won the Ace, entered dummy with the Heart Jack and played two rounds of Clubs chucking one of his losing Spades away.
He now played a third club and as East wasn’t able to ruff high he was able to win the trick with the ©7 and draw the remaining trumps losing just one more spade.
He made 6 trumps, 1 Spade and 2 Clubs, losing three Diamonds and 1 spade.
