On our hand this week we have escaped a Diamond switch which would deemed the contract impossible. But now that there has been a trump switch can we generate 10 tricks and avoid 4 losers.??

Initially we have 6 spade winners and the Club King after the lead. Originally we had 4 possible losers i.e. 1 Club, 2 Diamonds and 1 Heart.

We therefore need to find 3 more and a means of disposing a second diamond loser.

With this in mind we have to hope good things happen in clubs. It is a bit bizarre for West to lead a Club if he started with AQ of clubs so lets assume East has the Queen and lets hope it falls in three rounds. so we can promote the Jack. so after winning the spade we will draw the last trump and start on clubs by playing  a club and ruffing it. Now we renter dummy with the ♠7 and cash the club king delighted to see the Queen  fall. We have thrown one losing Diamond on the club king and now we throw a second losing diamond. Now it’s a matter of guessing the Heart position. If West has both the Ace and queen of hearts we cannot make the contract. From the bidding West is  likely to have the Heart Ace (for his overcall of 2♣) so we will have to finesse East for the missing Heart Queen and  finesse the Heart jack. When it is successful you are home.

You have made 6 trumps, 1 Heart, 2 Clubs, and 1 Heart ruffed in dummy the short hand.
