You take the first trick in dummy. Firstly you should start to draw trumps
retaining dummy’s Ace in case you need to finesse the 9 later. After drawing one round of trumps you
discover the awful break and now you must try and generate an extra trick from
ruffing a Diamond in your hand (the short hand). Without much ado you play the
Diamond King which West takes and now plays a second Spade. You win the second
Spade and now take your Diamond ruff carefully ruffing high just in case West is
out of Diamonds and then proceed to draw the last three trumps finessing West’s
10. Now you give up a Spade and claim. You have carefully made 3 Spades, 5
Hearts, 1 established Diamond, 1 Diamond ruffed and 1 Club.
