On this hand initially you have just 7 top winners - 5
trumps and two Aces but with due care and attention we can realize 4more tricks. We will need to play for split Club Honours (75% chance
of success) and ruff tow Hearts in dummy the short hand. After winning the first trick in dummy it is now
convenient to take the first Club finesse and after playing the Queen this loses
to West’s King. West now tries a Low Diamond (strange but considerate play
trying to get a possible ruff for his partner) away from his Ace. East wins and
plays another Diamond. You ruff low and now ruff your first Heart. As you are
now conveniently in dummy take your second club finesse happy to see dummy’s 10
covered by the Jack. Now ruff a Heart with the King so when you continue to draw
trumps you can overtake in hand and finish drawing trumps. You now make all the
remaining tricks with all your black cards being high. You have made 5 trumps, 1 Hearts, 2 Heart ruffs and 3
clubs for an excellent Match Point Score. (NB With a trump lead and a trump continuation you will
of course only make 10 tricks)
