1. Showing The Minors usually 55 or better
After being pushed into 5
♣ for an alleged save against 4♥ can you now make this contract?Unfortunately, my opponent failed when there were two ways to make the contract.
Initially you have 6 club winners and nothing else. However you can ruff two Hearts in dummy, the short hand. and then you need to build extra tricks from those Diamonds in dummy and if the Diamonds lay favourably you can establish 4 Diamond tricks bringing your total to 11. Put another way as long as you keep your losers to just two i.e. 1 Diamond and 1 Spade then you will get home.
After winning the first trick in hand play the
♦Jack ready to let it run. West plays the Ace and plays another club which you win in hand. Now finesse the Diamond Ten which wins. and play the winning Diamond chucking a Spade, Now its a matter of giving up a spade to West's Ace and claiming the rest. You eventually made 6 clubs from the long hand, 2 Diamonds 1 Diamond ruffed, 1 Established Diamond (eventually) and 1 heart ruff, losing just the 2 Major suit Aces.
Had you played the Spade queen first the other successful but inferior line would now be to finesse the
♠10 in hand.| You can also play out the following hand to see how the hand pans out. (You need bridgvu.exe programme and it is available free from http://www.haroldschogger.com/movies.html ) |
