NB 2§ is showing 5:5 in th Majors (very weak or very strong)

In order to defeat this contract you will have to take 3 defensive tricks

Partner has led the club Ace and suddenly played a low Heart which you won. It seems partner has underled his Heart Ace. Why has he done this? Why has he led the club Ace when declarer bid Clubs strongly.

Either work it out or FOLLOW PARTNER’S DEFENCE

  1. Firstly let’s follow partner’s defence – Partner has led a club and switched to a low Heart so presumably Partner now wants you to play another Club (NOT A HEART) and you now get a lovely surprise when partner ruffs the third round.
  2. Secondly now let’s work it out- Declarer has bid clubs strongly and Diamonds only once so declarer is marked with six clubs and 4 Diamonds which means partner must have a singleton Club Ace and that’s why he has now underled his Hearts because he wants you to give him a ruff. Also partner knows you have 5 Hearts from your Michael’s cue Bid overcall so knows declarer has no more Hearts and it would be futile to try and a cash a second Heart.

When I played this hand on OK Bridge after winning the second trick with the Jack of Hearts my dear partner played another Heart UGH. I am not playing with him any more but I have a nice hand to write up J

You can also watch the following movie to see how the hand pans out. To view this programme you will need  to download htttp://www.haroldschogger.com/bridgevu.setup
