After a fourth suit forcing sequence North discovers that partner is 5:5 in the Black suits and now ventures into Roman Key Card Blackwood For Spades (the last bid suit before Blackwood is engaged). When discovering rather disappointedly that partner only has one Key card he stops in just 5♠

Having escaped a Diamond lead declarer is faced with a trump lead. Could West have the King ? Should we finesse at trick one ? If we do and the finesse is wrong the opponents could quickly cash two top Diamonds and take you one off before you can say Zia Mahmood.

Having escaped the Diamond lead, don’t look a gift horse in the mouth.

Go Up with the Ace and quickly play two top Hearts in order to throw a losing Diamond away.

Now to cater for a Bad club break, 4:2 more likely than 33 play two top clubs and ruff a club with the Spade Jack in dummy. The clubs broke kindly and now it’s a matter of drawing trumps.

As the cards lie the Spade finesse was wrong and you merely lose 1 Spade and 1 Diamond.

You amass, 4 trumps, 2 Hearts, 4 Clubs, and  a Club ruffed in dummy, the short hand.
