On our hand this week if we are very careful indeed we might make 13  tricks.

From the bidding we should know that West must be void in Spades. East opened 2ª showing six and it seems West was unable to lead his partner’s suit.

In order to make this contract we will have to hope that the trump suit breaks 3-2 and that we can establish our second suit, Diamonds. 

We must also remember that the only way to get backwards and forwards between the 2 hands is NOT WITH A SPADE or West will ruff,

Therefore after winning the first trick in dummy we discard a losing Spade. Now we play A Diamond to the Ace and ruff a Diamond. We now enter our hand by trumping a Club in order to ruff another Diamond. When everybody follows to the third Diamond which we ruff with dummy’s Queen we know Diamonds are breaking 4:3 (62%)

Our priority is to now draw trumps so we cash dummy’s remaining High Honour then trump another club to get back to hand in order to draw the remaining trumps. When the trumps now break 3:2 (66%) we make 13 tricks. 

We made 1 Club. 2 Spades (at the end) 5 trumps ((from the long hand) 2 top Diamonds, 2 Diamonds ruffed and 1 established Diamond.
