After winning with the King you take
stock. Partner discouraged the ffirast trick with a low Diamond and now declarer
seems to have take a Heart finesse. From the bidding you know partner has at
most 3 points. It seems declarer has the Diamonds and
Hearts sewn up and with you holding the Queen of clubs it looks like declarer
will make 5 club tricks too. With all this in mind you will need to
act quickly or declarer will make 12 tricks.. You will need to switch to Spades but
which one ? You merely switch to the Spade Ace and see if partner encourages.
Partner does encourage and now you take three defensive tricks. All the lazy
West who merely continue Diamonds will let 12 tricks through.
