Sometimes one has to get get active and sometimes you need to stay passive and wait for your tricks to come to you.

My partner decided to stay passive then let 10 ticks through when declarer was able to make 3 spades, 1Heart and 5 Diamonds.

Now lets replay and see where he went wrong. After winning the first trick declarer unblocked 2 top Diamonds followed by a club which was ducked by me and also partner. Declarer now played another club won by my King. I now switched to a Heart in the hope of finding partner with either the King or Ace. Declarer played the jack and partner won the trick with the King.

Decision time.

He now exited with a safe Spade and now declarer made 10 tricks. However it was a pity not to have been a follower of "Follow Partner's Defence". If he had now returned my Heart switch we would now make 3 more heart tricks and bring our defensive tricks to 4 Hearts,1 Spade for an almost top MP score.

(Pity the first club wasn't taken followed by a heart switch then and the contract might even go one down)
