The opponents lead ª4 plan your play.

On the first trick do not be in a hurry to play either of dummy’s honours. After playing low East wins with the Queen and East removes dummy’s Club Ace off the table playing the 2.

The two most important cards in your hand are the ¨J and the ©Q which should be your entries back to the established Clubs. At trick three you play a Heart off the table toward your Queen which holds. You now cash the Club King. Now it’s a matter of playing a low club and hoping for that the Queen was in the hand containing three and that it falls on air or to play the Jack trying to pin the 10. If East has both the Queen and 10 there is nothing you can do. Since East was eager to switch to a club suggests that he is more likely to hold four to the Queen. With this in mind we play the Jack happy to see the 10 being pinned. Now our 9 is established and another club. Back comes a Spade and after winning his Ace West plays a Heart. We of course take our Ace and the rest of the tricks.  We now make 2 Spades, 2 Hearts, 4 Diamonds and 4 Clubs BUT in reality we do not make 12 tricks because they have already taken 3 from 2 Spades and a Club J
