(NB 2ª is a transfer to Clubs and 2NT shows good club feature otherwise North would have completed the transfer and bid 3§, 3© and 4© were subsequent natural bids.)

This hand is all about falling into the trap of ruffing for ruffing's sake just because of the lure of a void. Why not count winners and losers instead and you will find there is no need to ruff anything.

After taking the first trick you take stock and count 5 winners only with so much potential from the club suit it is beginning  to hurt J. On the losers side you have 1 Spade and 1 club.

Therefore after winning the first trick you draw trumps in three rounds and play the Club King and you are well on the road to making 11 tricks.

You can also view  watch the following movie to see how the hand pans out. (You need bridgvu.exe programme  or BridgeBase programme on your machine already to view it ) and it is available free from

http://www.haroldschogger.com/videos.htm

 alternatively watch the film www.haroldschogger.com/movies2.htm
