Lead ♣Ace
I was somewhat surprised when declarer played this hand incorrectly against me when he was playing it correctly until the 11th hour which was fairly early on (trick 5).
The Ace of Clubs was led followed by another by another club won with his King. He started on trumps and East won followed by a Diamond to partner's Ace. followed by a low spade from West and it was at this point was where he went wrong. What to play? The King and finesse West for the missing Ace or a low card and hope West has the Queen and East the missing Ace or a low one playing West for the missing Queen? He went up with the King won by East's Ace and then proceeded to go down when the Spade Queen was the setting trick.
Where did he go wrong? Where were the club honour's. It was four tricks in and at this stage he should have REMEMBERED THE BIDDING with both opponents both Passing. With West initially PASSING therefore having already turned up with 2 Aces alreadthis meant he could not have the Spade Ace as well otherwise he would have probably opined the bidding in first seat. With all this knowledge declarer had to hope West had the Queen and therefore tried the 10 or a low one round to his Jack. Now he doesn't lose two spade trick and gets home making 4 Heart tricks, 1 Spade trick, 1 Club trick and 3 Diamond tricks.
