After a slight bidding misunderstanding my partner decided to bid 7©. His 5♦ relay bid was asking me for the trump Queen and I forgot and merely gave him second round control in Clubs and he now bid the Grand.
Would he play for the drop or would he finesse? He had obviously heard about Culbertson’s Law of Distribution which says if your hands are balanced with no shortages (singletons) anywhere then the opponents’ hands are likely to be the same. With this in mind he won the first trick in dummy with the King and then proceeded to play two top Trumps bringing down the queen in two rounds. When the club Jack fell under the king he was able to claim 2 top spades, 5 hearts, 2 top Diamonds and 4 clubs and he didn’t need to ruff anything.
