                                             What do you lead?    Plan you defence of their 3NT contract

The secret of best defence is to BE PATIENT.

When dummy comes down you realise with 6 points in the dummy and with declarer having 20-22 that doesn't leave much with partner and if you are going to defeat this contract you have to be patient and wait for the tricks to come to you and try not to give anything away or get busy.

Declarer wins the first trick taking partner's Jack with the King, and plays a heart to the Jack which you duck and then a second Heart. You should take the third Heart and play a Diamond. Declarer wins and cashes a heart. You discard a Spade.

Declarer cashes his Diamond winners ending on table. He now takes the Spade finesse and you win with your King  and you again need to be passive and exit with a Spade. Declarer wins the Ace and exits with a Spade which your partner wins and can now play a Club through declarer and you will now take the last 2 tricks.

You have made 2 Spades, 1 Heart and eventually 2 clubs to defeat the contract by one
