On our hand this week initially without doing any work at all we have 10 tricks- 5 trumps, 2 Hearts and 3 Diamonds with only 3 possible losers, 2 Clubs and a Heart.
If the Diamonds break then maybe we can get a Heart loser away. Maybe we can get the club finesse right. However can we combine our chances with an endplay to almost guarantee 11 tricks.
Well firstly we will draw trumps pleased to see the trumps breaking kindly 22. Next we will eliminate the Diamonds and as expected the Diamond broke 4:2 (so next extra trick from that suit. After ruffing the third Diamond in the long hand we can afford to enter dummy with a trump having eliminated Diamonds' now play a club towards the Jack which loses to West's Queen. West cashed his Ace and now he is well and truly fixed. If he plays a club he gives away a ruff and discard and if he plays a Heart we can play for split honours.
He in fact plays a Heart and when we play low from dummy up pops the Jack . After winning we will finesse west on the way back and make an 11th trick from a successful Heart finesse, losing just the two clubs
