With no outside entry to North after ruffing the second Spade my canny partner now played a low Diamond from dummy towards his Jack hoping for a defensive error at this point in time. He was soon rewarded. West took his queen and played another trump.
Declarer could now return to his hand via Ace of Clubs (no finesses here J )and draw the last trump with his queen before going over to dummy to cash all the winning diamonds when they broke 3:2
Had the defence played another Diamond after winning the Queen then declarer would have no chance. Sometimes you have to play a psychological game and rely on an opponent to make one mistake.
Declarer eventually made 11 tricks :-and 4 Spades, 5 Diamonds 1Heart ruffed and 1 Club losing just 1 Spade and 1 Diamond.
