When dummy comes down and we count points we can see 9 points in dummy together with our full bloodied 18 points our total is 27 which means East is likely to have all the remaining high card points
On the winners tally we initially have 2 Spades (after the lead) 2 Hearts and 4 clubs bringing the total to 8. As long as we establish 1 more trick in Hearts we will make our contract. Here we have a two way finesse in Hearts when either opponent can be finessed for the missing Queen.
With nothing else to go on, except the bidding we decide to finesse East for the missing Heart Queen. First we should cash the King just in case there is a singleton Queen floating about in either opponent’s hand and no finesse was necessary from the word go. Now we play a low Heart towards our AJ and when the queen falls we now have 4 heart tricks in the bag. We can try for more overtricks in Diamonds but it is not to be as East persists in Spades. We however take 10 tricks by way of 2 Spades, 4 Hearts and 4 clubs.
