On this hand you firstly need to be observant and then make the corresponding deduction

After the lead your winners count is 4 trumps and 2 Diamonds only.

If the trumps behave then you will get another trump and with the King and Queen between your hand and the dummy you will eventually get 1 Club and maybe 1 Spade

On the lead you play dummy’s Queen to force out the Ace from West (reason for this will be explained shortly).

After winning the first trick East switched to his partner’s suit with the ª9. you play low and West wins with the Queen and cashes the Ace with East following suit with the 2. The King in hand is now a winner but……….

West overcalled Spades so it now looks like West might have six card suit and when he plays another spade instead of letting the trick come around to your winning King you MUST TRUMP HIGH with dummy’s King or you will immediately go one off.

You are not yet out of the woods because you must now finish drawing trumps  and endeavour to make 2 more club tricks as well as the 2 Diamonds to bring your tally to ten.

Did you remember that at trick 1 West led the Club Ten denying the Jack, therefore East is marked with the Jack and because of your careful play at trick 1 you can now play a club off table and finesse the lowly 8 to bring home your contract as East does indeed have the Jack.
