On our hand this week partner has made no attempt to support our Hearts even though he knows we have at least five, so he is marked with a shortage in Hearts and his Ace could well be a singleton.
With this knowledge you need to tell partner what to play after trick One if that Ace is a singleton. What do you want after the first trick? You in fact want a Spade because you have a void and want an immediate ruff.
Therefore at trick 1 you need to drop that Queen on the first trick as a SUIT PREFERENCE SIGNAL to tell partner you want an immediate switch to Spades where you are void and can have an immediate ruff.
Partner duly obliges and switches to Spade and you ruff with your singleton King. You now play a LOW heart back as a second suit preference signal now asking partner to come back a club (NB you have no more trumps so cannot ruff any more spades. Partner plays a club to your Ace and you give him another ruff. You have taken the first five tricks before poor declarer has had a look in.
You won 1 Heart, 1 Club 2 Heart ruffs (for partner) and 1 Spade ruff for you through your very accurate defence.
