On this hand there is a reasonable trump
suit but no outside suit to establish. Since each hand has a shortage the time
is ripe for a cross ruff. You will need to ruff clubs in dummy and Diamonds in
your own had. Before you begin the cross ruff it is correct to cash all your
actual winners (two top Diamonds and two top clubs) in the correct order. So
after winning the first trick with your Ace, you play a club to dummy’s King,
cash the Diamonds followed by a Diamond ruff. You now cash the remaining high
club and then let the cross ruffing begin. You will make 1 Spade, 2 Diamonds, 2
Clubs and six tricks from cross ruffing the Minor suits. You can also view
watch the following movie to see how the hand pans out. (You need bridgvu.exe
programme or BridgeBase programme on your machine already to view it ) and it is available free
