Having escaped a Diamond lead can you now play the hand out and keep your Diamond losers to just two, even if the AK10 of Diamond sits over dummy’s QJ6. Yes, you can if you do an elimination play.

You will have to draw trumps. You will have to ruff your three Spades in dummy using your trump entries and club entries carefully to achieve this and then you will have to eliminate the clubs ending up in declarer’s hand. Now and only now should you lead a Diamond up to the Queen. East will win but is now end-played. If he plays back his other top Diamond you are ok and if he plays back anything else you can trump in either hand and dump a Diamond loser from the other hand.
