This hand comes from the National Pairs Final and this was our second board against the eventual winners Peter Lee and Bob Rowlands and I was determined not to get a second bad board in a row.

Playing a second Herat was going to reduce my trumps and it looked like I might lose control of the trump suit if it broke badly.

Needing a good board with as many overtricks as possible I went for broke ruffing in my hand.

I now played  Ace and another Spade pleased to see the King appear.

The defence now played yet another Heart and I was now down to one trump, the winning Queen. I played it and both opponents followed, the Spades having broken- who is the lucky declarer then ?

I now made the remaining tricks by way of all the winning minor cards.

I made 2 trumps, 2 Heart ruffs, 4 Clubs and 3 Diamonds for a 75% score PHEW

The Deep Finesse programme informed us that 10 tricks should be the par result but that is only the case if a Club is led and the opposition gets a club ruff which is highly unlikely.
