The trump lead suggests that West has the spades sitting over you so taking any sort of spade finesse would be futile. An initial count of your winners comes to 9 by way of 5 trumps, 1 Diamond 1 Heart and 2 Spades,

Hopefully, you will be able to establish 2 more tricks from Diamonds by way of a finesse and therefore you will need to take one spade ruff in dummy before clearing all the trumps. After winning the first trick take a deep finesse in Diamonds inserting dummy’s 10 which brings the King from East who plays a second trump, revealing the 4:1 trump division. Take your spade ruff now. And play Ace and another heart to get back to hand in order to draw the last trumps. Cash the winning Spade and then cash out the Diamonds again glad to see this suit breaking 3:3.

You have made your contract from 5 Clubs, 3 Diamonds, 1 Heart 2 Spades and 1 spade ruff.

You can also view  watch the following movie to see how the hand pans out. (You need bridgvu.exe programme  or BridgeBase programme on your machine already to view it ) and it is available free from
